waves rocked against white stone, their sound not far. the power of the ocean lingered in the susurration, a taunting song from the beast that rested there.[break][break]

marsh mud squelched under his boots. a blastoise waded along with him, helping pull a raft of saplings through knee-deep, murky water. rangers from all over the region had found themselves there at one point or another, contributing to restoration efforts of sootopolis’s devastated wetlands.[break][break]

Airi moved carefully through the opaque and gelatinous mud surrounding them. Her expensive hiking boots were completely stained and unappealing. If she was in her right mind, she would have been slightly disgusted by the current environment. However, her mind was full of racing images from a previous event. She has tried her best to push past those deep and painful thoughts, but the memories continue to hunt her. Her body has recovered physically, but her heart and mind continue to struggle. How could she possibly forget about all of the innocent bystanders, whose lives have been taken away from them? Not to mention the number of her friends and loved ones, who she is not sure survived the event or not. If she could go back in time to change anything, she would have fought even harder to protect those who could not protect themselves at the time. [break][break]

Her deep thoughts are soon interrupted by her partner's voice. Her deep blue eyes shifted over to him, and a soft smile found its way across her softly painted lips. "Ah, yes. Please feel free to call me Airi," she responded to him. She has always understood her last name could be a little bit of a mouthful for some. "You were once a Ranger yourself, too, right?" She asked him, a warm smile still curled against the corners of her lips. [break][break]

Bean, her Swampert, waded through the mud behind her. Occasionally, he would make a couple of stops in order to free those in need of him.

”i was captain of rustboro. left to work on a farm for a while.” he’d been born and raised in rustboro, along with the other maher siblings, including gym leader CIAN MAHER. it was a family name the city knew, however they were disliked by some for their well-known past involvement with team rocket.[break][break]

he gathered natural debris with thick rubber work gloves and pulled it together, pushing it down into the mud and working it into more stable soil for a sapling’s roots to take hold.[break][break]

”i’m back in, actually, in fallarbor. not captain, but ollie morales’s is a friend and he’s pushing for it. they really need somebody.” a sapling was picked off the cart, handled with ease and planted into the mud. "you were in the war, i'm guessing. what front?"

Airi nodded her head at his explanation. "Ah, I see. If you do not mind me asking you this question... What made you want to become a captain in the first place?" She asked, another warm smile spreading across her lips. She has always loved hearing the back stories of other captains. She did find his reason to resign his position quite honorable.

She tightened the gloves around her dainty hands a bit before bending over to replant some of the saplings close to her. Thanks to the assistance of her Swampert, Airi does not have to clear out any heavy debris. [break][break]

"Oh, yeah? Welcome back to the team. We could definitely use the extra help." A couple of soft giggles sounded off from her lips as she listened to him explain that Ollie has been pushing for him to take on the role as the Fallarbor Captain. She knows what it is like to have other people pushing for you. "It would be nice to have someone step up and accept the position. I've been leaning a hand over there whenever I can, but it can be a lot of work trying to oversee two locations," she admitted to him before grabbing another sapling. "Yeah, I was..." She responded, glancing down at the sapling in her hand as she reflected on the event. She still held a lot of mixed emotions about it. "I was stationed in Petalburg," she answered, kneeling back down to plant another sapling into the mud.
